On July 12, 2017, KACE’s New Jersey Grassroots interns invited Closter Councilwoman Jannie Chung to KACE’s New Jersey office. Councilwoman Chung has consistently shown support for KACE and has attended the 2016 KAGC Northeastern Regional Seminar.

At the meeting, Councilwoman Chung highlighted the importance of grassroots activism and gave anecdotes from her personal experiences of running for and being in office. She emphasized the importance of not giving up, even in the face of rejection. The Councilwoman also displayed her appreciation for the KACE interns’ efforts in engaging the Korean American community through daily voter registration drives, and for assisting over 100 Korean American voters.

The interns were also provided with the opportunity to ask the Councilwoman questions in regards to the functions and responsibilities that her position entails, as well as that of Korean American voter participation. She stressed the need for the interns to have a deeper connection to the Korean American community and to be persistent with voters.

The 2017 Election for New Jersey will be taking place on November 7, 2017. For all voter related inquiries, refer to “Quick Links” on KACE’s homepage for a poll site locator, voter registration forms, absentee ballots and Korean Interpreter opportunities with the New York State Board of Elections.
