KACE joined the 2016 KAGC South Central Regional Seminar in Houston, TX on March 25th and 26th, 2016, hosted by the Korean American Association of Houston (KAAH, president Kihoon Kim). This was one of the several regional seminars in preparation for this year’s Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC) to take place in Washington, D.C. on July 6th through 8th. Since 2015, KACE has been visiting cities with large Korean American populations to introduce grassroots movement and run education sessions, in collaboration with local Korean American organizations with the goal of supporting local, independent campaign for voting right advocacy and grassroots activism.

The 2016 KAGC South Central Regional Seminar was the second annual of its kind, attended by over 100 Korean American community leaders from throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and other South Central states. In the seminar, KACE President Dongchan Kim and Program Director Wonseok Song held education sessions on grassroots participatory democracy and the importance of civic engagement, as well as the annual Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC).

The 2016 Korean American Grassroots Conference will take place in Washington, D.C. on July 6th through 8th. With the theme “Local Action, National Impact,” this year’s conference will feature a forum discussion with representatives of presidential candidates on issues pertinent to our community. Since 2014, the conference’s gala is joined by members of the U.S. Congress who engage directly with their constituents. The 2015 KAGC gala was joined by 13 members of Congress from both sides of the aisle, in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
