On August 16, 2016 KACE Grassroots Interns invited New York Senator Toby Ann Stavisky (District 16) to our New York office to discuss community issues and ask questions on a career in public service. Senator Toby Ann Stavisky has shown support for the Korean American community and KACE, attending KACE’s 19th annual gala in 2015.

At the meeting, Senator Stavisky underlined the importance of higher education as well as active civic participation. She presented ways in which the students can be actively involved within their own communities and urged the students to continue being active, even after the conclusion of the Grassroots Internship program.
Senator Stavisky applauded the efforts of our interns and presented to the Grassroots Interns, a certificate recognizing the students’ active engagement with KACE. Our interns were grateful to receive such recognition from the Senator and for her advice on how to be more engaged as young citizens.
Senator Stavisky emphasized the importance of eliciting higher voter participation from the Korean American communities in the upcoming primary for NYS Senate and Assembly. The upcoming primary for NYS Senate and Assembly will be taking place on September 13, 2016 with the voter registration deadlines on August 19, 2016.
