From Thursday, January 15th to Saturday, January 17th, Korean American Civic Empowerment (KACE) held the Local Activists Seminar for 2015 Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC) in Crown Plaza Hotel at Englewood, New Jersey.

50 local leaders from thirteen different states participated in the event and received training on grassroots activism, voting rights advocacy, and main issue concerning the Korean American community. The participants also shared their experience in civic engagement and exchanged ideas for local grassroots projects, and created a platform for establishing a nationwide network.

The participating groups sought for ways to initiate a nationwide campaign that promotes political empowerment of Korean Americans by means of voting rights advocacy, and resolving various issues pertaining to Korean Americans with the help of the nationwide network.

KACE presented the five Korean American policy priorities (comprehensive immigration reform, Partner with Korea Act, strengthening of US-Korea alliance, reuniting divides families in the US, and strengthening the trilateral alliance) that was delivered to the Congress on its opening day on January 6th, and urged that these priorities are aggressively advocated for as part of the nationwide campaign.

The participants agreed to form small groups in their respective states to promote and prepare for an even bigger and more successful KAGC. The inaugural KAGC, which took place last year in Washington DC, had two senators and eleven congressmen attend, showcasing remarkable improvement in the political engagement of Korean Americans.
