On June 15, 2013, Korean American Civic Empowerment (KACE) held its 8080 Campaign at the Inaugural Muk Ja Gol Mok Asian Festival in Flushing, New York.

The 8080 Campaign is KACE’s new long-term initiative, aimed to increase the voter participation and election turnout rate of Korean Americans to 80%. To accomplish the objective, KACE visits places of interest and conducts voter registration drives and awareness campaigns. KACE is also recruiting poll workers and Korean interpreters for New York and New Jersey.

Hosted by the Muk Ja Gol Mok Merchants Association and the Korean American Association of Queens, this festival was held at the Murray Hill area in Flushing. Murray Hill is affectionately called “Muk Ja Gol Mok” or “Food Alley” because of the wide variety of Korean cuisine available there. It is also a very diverse neighborhood with Koreans, Chinese, Latinos, Caucasians, and African Americans residing with each other.

Many local and state politicians visited KACE’s booth to give words of support and encouragement towards the 8080 Campaign and the participation of the Korean American community in local politics.
