On January 24, 2012, New York City Councilman Mark Weprin announced that he supports religious groups’ usage of school buildings in New York City.

A month ago, the New York State Court of Appeals ruled that religious groups cannot use public school buildings. A deadline, February 12, 2012, was set where churches had to move out.

The Korean American Voters’ Council with the Council of Korean Churches in Greater New York held a petition campaign, and sent letters to legislators for their support on laws that permit religious groups to use school buildings when no classes are scheduled.

In response, Councilman Weprin stated that he supports our position and that he is also in support of Councilman Fernando Cabrera’s bill that is in line with A8800.
