On July 29th 2011, KAVC president Dongchan Kim hosted an educational campaign for the Senior Citizen Voters’ Federation to educate people about the system of municipality and to encourage maximum participation. To the audience, Mr. Kim not only acknowledged that the Korean-American society has relentlessly fulfilled their duties as voters, but also emphasized the importance of raising civic responsibility in the community.

In his speech, which lasted about twenty minutes, Mr. Kim explicitly explained the mechanism of the functioning of the American political system that intertwines all levels of government ranging from the federal to local town level. He also underscored the praiseworthy civic responsibility Americans whose participation not only progresses the democratic ideology, but also prevents corruption and dictatorship possessed. Urging active participation, Mr. Kim stated reasons why Korean Americans have to participate and how they could partake in certain activities.

According to Mr. Kim, the United States of America is the embodiment of complete democracy where the smallest town functions under the system of separation of power. By enhancing participation in politics, Korean Americans can raise the local leadership that can help the Korean-American society withstand hardships and foster development during times of adversity. Mr. Kim ultimately advocated for the maximum participation of Korean Americans in politics, regardless of the size of the government, to learn the exemplary characteristics of political leaders.

KAVC is continuously hosting an educational campaign to foster the civic activities for grassroots campaigns and holds civic academy sessions at the FGS Korean Community Center in New Jersey, the Great Neck Korean Association, and the Senior Citizen Voters’ Federation.
